Hello, my name is Umut. Welcome to my academic personal website!

I am primarily a member of the Artificial Cognitive Systems lab, where I work on combining deep learning and neural coding to systematically investigate the cognitive computations in vivo with neuroimaging and implement them in silico with artificial neural networks.

I am also a member of the Language in Interaction consortium and the Neuronal Stimulation for Recovery of Function consortium, where I extend my work to decode the mental lexicon and restore the visual function, respectively.

I did my postdoctoral, doctoral and master’s studies in cognitive/computational neuroscience and bachelor’s studies in artificial intelligence as well as doing additional undergraduate studies in mathematics and natural sciences.
